Latin America and the Caribbean, Region Most Affected by the Virus

(Montevideo) Latin America and the Caribbean on Sunday became the region of the world with the highest number of contaminations since the start of the COVID pandemic – 19, or 4 340 214 case, according to a report established by AFP on Sunday from official sources.

This is the first time that the number of infections in this region has exceeded that of North America, which has 4 214 989 cases, mainly in the United States, the most affected country in the world with 4.2 million infections and nearly 150 00 0 deaths.

In Latin America, Brazil is the most affected country with 2 340 513 case and 26 449 Died Saturday. An increase in contaminations is observed in Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Argentina, countries which are trying to revive their economic activity to limit the impact of the pandemic.

In terms of the number of deaths, Europe remains in the lead, with 207 933 death, followed by Latin America and the Caribbean (182 726), and the United States and Canada (155 673).

In May, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the American continent had become the new epicenter of the pandemic, after Europe.
