Lake Reba Kayak Fishing Report 4/29/12

By Johnabrams82
I got a chance to go out for a few hours on my new Pelican castaway 100 kayak.  I was a little hesitant at first about getting this model because the weight capacity is only 250 lbs.  I alone weigh over 230.  However the kayak does sit fairly low in the water but it seems to hold me and some gear just fine.  I would highly recommend one to anyone thinking of getting a kayak.
Anyway we got out on the water around 11:00 and headed straight for the first island.  I circled the island throwing a black 1/8th ounce jig with a rubber trailer into the layed down trees.  I got a couple of small thumps from what I assume were bluegill.  I switched over to a 3 inch senko and thats when the action started.  I caught a couple of small bass from around that island before heading to a weedy cove nearby.

Casting the senko into the cover and dragging it into the pockets resulted in a hookup almost every cast.

I lost a lot of fish as they darted deep in the weeds and shook the hook.  We eventually headed for the next two islands.  I was surprised to find that the area between the two is only a few inches deep.
I could see beds scattered throughout the area so I tried casting around where it drops off.  We ended up catching several good size bass in the 2 lb range.

At one point I hooked into something that pulled drag and never stoppeduntil it spit the hook,  I am assuming it was a carp, catfish, or a monster bass.
It turned out to be a great day for fishing between two of us we ended up catching close to twenty largemouth bass and had a ton of fun.
