Lahore High Court Bars Returning Officers from Asking Irrelevant Questions

The Lahore High Court on Friday barred the Returning Officers from asking irrelevant questions from the electoral candidates while the ban has also been imposed on the media coverage of scrutiny process.

While hearing the petition filed against asking of personal life queries from aspirants of contesting general election during the scrutiny of nomination papers, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah remarked that the Returning Officers can only raise question on the information provided by the candidates in their papers.

The Judge also expressed annoyance over the bringing of TV cameras of the Returning officers, saying with such acts the dignity of judicially is razed.
