I'll be honest here ( and you all know I usually am when it comes to writing on the blog ) when I first found out I was pregnant with our second, one of the things that really scared me was breastfeeding again. I had a horrible time with Lily. She wouldn't latch correctly, I was worried about her lip tie and I had constant pain, bleeding and cracked/sore nipped. Glamorous Mom life right? I only really lasted about 3 months nursing Lily and I felt like a complete failure. It was hard, it was exhausting, it was frustrating and above all, time consuming. And as a first time mom, it was one of the most emotional times.
With Landon, I was totally wrong. I've heard boys and girls are different eaters and my son certainly has proved to be a frequent and very hungry eater as he gained about 2 1/2 pounds in a matter of two weeks! Growth spurt!? The best part about feeding Landon is that he has a great latch and if you've ever been a breast feeding Mom, you know how important that clearly is. It's a night and day different between the two and actually, one that I'm enjoying having with him. I couldn't believe that this was what it should have been like and dare I say, I look forwarded to our bonding moments when he wanted to nurse.
While my milk supply is fine, I'm always searching for ways to keep it up before I head back to work ( and even while I'm going to start pumping as well ). I found these easy, delicious and simple energy bites not only to keep my own energy up but keep my supply up as well. These tasty treats are perfect
for not just Mom's but anyone super busy like myself! Here's how I made them! Ingredients- 2 cups old-fashioned oats
- ½ cup ground or milled flaxseed
- 3 tablespoons brewer’s yeast
- 1 cup peanut butter or almond butter
- ½ cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions- In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add all ingredients except for the chocolate chips. Mix on low speed until mixture is well combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
- Roll mixture into 2-tablespoon sized smooth balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or enjoy right away. Once the bites have set, transfer them to an air-tight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
