AGUA DULCE – Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich’s office announced Tuesday that the Board of Supervisors approved revisions to Agua Dulce’s Community Standards District.
“Through the hard work of the town council and property owners, this action will protect Agua Dulce’s vital equestrian lifestyle, trail system and sensitive natural features including Vasquez Rocks,” Antonovich stated in a news release. “It will minimize the unnecessary influence of urban infrastructure, street lights and concrete sidewalks that would alter the rural character of the community.”

New revisions to the CSD address community issues in Agua Dulce such as minimum lot size, residential and commercial development standards, street improvements, public trails, lighting, signage, the allowance of cargo shipping containers and dogs, the expansion of allowable home-based occupations, and significant ridgeline and hillside management area protection.
According to a May 2012 report from KHTS Radio, changes that stood out in the updated CSD included increasing the number of allowed dogs on a lot and allowing for shipping containers in residential or agricultural areas.
Supervisors approved one additional dog on lots larger than two acres, two more dogs on lots larger than three acres, and three additional dogs on lots larger than four acres – holding the maximum to six dogs.
The revised CSD also permits property owners in residential or agricultural areas to store cargo shipping containers – with the number determined by the size of the lot or parcel. One container is allowed on lots that are between one and less-than-five acres, two containers for lots between five and less-than-10 acres, and three containers for 10 or more acres.
However, according to the staff report by LA County Counsel John F. Krattli, the placement of cargo shipping containers on lots or parcels of land less than one net acre in size, and the placement of containers exceeding the numbers authorized in the above chart, may be allowed, provided that a minor conditional use permit is first obtained.”

The Board of Supervisors indicated its intent to approve the revised CSD on May 22, 2012.
According to Agua Dulce Town Council website, adtowncouncil.com, “the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the recommendation of the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) to amend the County Code to update the Agua Dulce CSD as reflected in the draft ordinance and incorporate the requests of the Agua Dulce Town Council into the CSD and instructed County Counsel to prepare an ordinance amending the County Code as recommended by the RPC.”
The LA County Regional Planning Commission held a public hearing to consider the proposed update to the Agua Dulce CSD in February 2012.
