L’Oréal has collaborated with the avatar-creation startup Ready Player Me to deliver hair and makeup options to the metaverse. As part of the agreement, L’Oréal Professionnel has published five on-trend hairstyles and Maybelline New York has designed five makeup looks for users of Ready Player One to attempt.
Asmita Dubey, Chief Marketing Officer of the L’Oréal Group, stated in a statement that the future of beauty would embrace physical, digital, and virtual realms. In order to accomplish this, the L’Oréal Group is developing “virtual experiences utilizing virtual spaces,” which include tailored in-game encounters and virtual ambassadors.
Through this cooperation, users will be able to wear L’Oréal’s fashions in 4,000 distinct virtual worlds. A spokesman for the L’Oréal Group stated that the corporation preferred to push the frontiers of innovation in the digital beauty field rather than develop realistic looks. It is currently unknown how long the looks will be available.
Ready Player Me is a company that makes avatars as its main object. In a recent Series B funding round, led by Andreessen Horowitz’s a16z company, it raised $56 million. Users of Ready Player Me can make a single avatar that they can use in many virtual worlds, such as Spatial, Hiberworld, and VRChat.
This is not the first time L’Oréal has used Web3. It teamed up with Meta a few weeks ago to take part in the social media giant’s metaverse accelerator, which was held in Paris, France, for six months. L’Oréal also has a Web3 experience where people can try on different makeup palettes virtually. Aside from those Web3 moves, it has also put together its own collection of NFT moves.
This year, many industries have found Web3 to be useful, and the beauty industry is no different. We have written a lot of stories at Rarity Sniper about beauty companies and the next version of the internet.
Take Sephora as an example. On September 18, 2022, the “Sephoria” event was held in the metaverse by a company that makes beauty products. Users could take masterclasses, hang out in lounges, and watch videos from the company’s founders during the four-hour event. There is also Fenty Beauty. Rihanna’s company filed a number of Web3 trademarks with the USPTO eight months ago. Makeup, hair accessories, skin care products, and perfumes that can be downloaded are protected by trademarks.
The fact that L’Oréal is working with Ready Player Me shows that the company is still interested in Web3 and is still making moves in the area. Here at Rarity Sniper, we’ll keep a close eye on the story to see what happens next.
