Earlier today, everybody's favorite Aussie electro-pop queen Kylie Minogue left us, her loyal fans with a very special treat AND ON HER OWN BIRTHDAY no less.  Shortly after sharing a photo of herself with the caption, "Might be my birthday but I'm still working #studio," Queen Kylie Retweeted a Soundcloud link from DJ/Remixer/Producer Chris Lake.  Where did said link take us, you might ask? Oh just to an AMAZING new song called "Skirt." That's all!  The song, which Chris Lake debuted at opening weekend of Pacha Ibiza this past weekend was produced by Nom De Strip (AKA Chris Elliot) and co-written by The-Dream.  Listen to it BELOW THE CUT:

The song offers listeners a TASTE of what Minogue has been working on for album #12, the follow up to 2010's Aphrodite, which went on to become Minogue's second highest charting album in the U.S.A., peaking at #19 on the Billboard 200.  At first listen, "Skirt" doesn't sound all that different from some of Kylie's more recent releases, but the more you play it the more you start to pick up what she's putting down here.  Kylie is playing with her own trademark sounds, experimenting with different types of production, most notably dubstep, evolving into a more modern EDM artist, leaving behind much of what we've come to expect in terms of those cheezeball euro-house beats.  I have to say, I'm excited to see what Kylie's got in store for us in the coming year!
Following a year plus of Aphrodite promotion, one would think that Kylie would take a break!  Nope - Kylie showed no signs of stopping in 2012!  Mustering up, what could only be described as some sort of Green Fairy energy, we saw the pint sized pop diva jet around the world in celebration of 25 years in the biz, release a new single ("Timebomb"), a new Greatest Hits compilation (The Best of Kylie Minogue), PLUS an acoustic album (The Abbey Road Sessions) ON TOP of performing everywhere from Sydney Mardi Gras to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.  Oh, and she appeared in two films - a cameo in the American indie Jack & Diane and a lead role in French film Holy Motors, which debuted at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. W-W-W-WOW!
Then, in January 2013 Kylie announced that she and her manager Terry Blamey - a collaborator and partner from the beginning - had parted ways.  The following month, Kylie did the unexpected, signing to Roc Nation for a NEW management deal. Yep...that's right. Roc Nation. Jay-Z's Roc Nation, the company that also manages the careers of some of the world's BIGGEST artists (both established and up & coming), including Rihanna, Shakira, M.I.A., Mark Ronson, Melanie Fiona, and others.  Pretty exciting!  What's even more exciting?  Those rumored collaborations that we might get to hear on Kylie's new record. It's being reported that Kylie's been in the studio with producers and songwriters like Fernando Garibay, Pharrell Williams, Darkchild, Sia, Nervo and Jay-Z, to name just a few.
As if "Skirt" isn't enough to make you SQEEEEEEE! check out these three new promotional shots released along with the new song.  They are totally reminding me of Kylie circa 2001 - AKA the FEVER era. LOVE! Check them out!
