“Spirit Fade” begins with a James Blake-esque minimalism before Kwabs’ voice rears its head, giving definition to what might otherwise be an overly subtle track (watch him cover Blake’s “Wilhelm Scream” here). Soulful and sticky, his vocals are so full of gospel electricity that you might even “feel the spirit” move. Sparse and rich elements come together for a warm, spellbinding listen.
The UK-based newcomer has yet to release a debut EP, but you can expect that we (and probably you, after hearing this song) will be all over it when he does.
