Kumihimo Raised Spiral Keychain

By Cbdesigns @cherylboglioli

I like a large tote style purse, but I seem to always be losing my keys down in my purse.  I decided I needed a large keychain that was also pretty to carry my keys and I needed a larger keyring to keep all my various keys – home, car, studio, etc.

I had plenty of supplies in my Prima Bead stash to work with as well as some additional charms sent in this month’s Prima Bead blogger package.  I also wanted to play with my Kumihimo disk some more, so all things came together for this project.

I picked out some of my favorite colors of satin cord and set up the Kumihimo disk for a 12-strand raised spiral pattern with the turquoise being the dominant raised cord.

Once you get your cords set up and get your rhythm braiding, you can whip these together quite quickly.  I wanted a relatively long braid so that I will have no problem finding my keys when I throw them in a large tote or bag.

After the braid was tied off, I started adding a variety of beads to the ends of the cords.   To keep the beads in place, I found a beautiful knot called a Button Knot that works perfectly with satin cording.  I love that this knot can also be used in place of a bead.  I found the pattern at this link here.  You can see a better detail in the close-up photo above.

What do you think?  It’s pretty and it is unique.   I think I’ll find these super quick and it was easy to create!
