I love the feel of a local hardware store... the kind where the aisles are piled high with things as diverse as potato chips and little bins of screws of every shape and size you can imagine. You know... the kind of place where it feels like they will be able to answer all your silly questions and help you find the doo-hickey you are looking for.
When we moved to Golden Valley nearly 15 years ago, there was a Kuipers Hardware magnet on the refrigerator in our new home... our introduction to this long-time community resource. It soon became one of my husband's favorite places to go.
I don't know how long it has been here, but I suspect it was an early tenant of Golden Valley Shopping Center at the corner of Highway 55 and Winnetka Avenue when it was built in the 1950s. The shopping center itself still looks like a movie set from the 1950s...
I would guess it would be hard to find a long-time Golden Valley resident who doesn't know Kuipers... Golden Valley's place to go for hardware for decades... and likely more than half a century.
