Kristin Bauer Van Straten Discusses the Mysterious Pam/Tara Sex Scene

If you were paying attention during the Season 6 premiere of HBO‘s True Blood you may have noticed that during an argument between Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) and Tara (Rutina Wesley), a comment was made about the duo having had sex.  If you were confused about that don’t be – we all were!  Since only saw a kiss between the duo many wondered if that was a writers mistake or if we were being kept in the dark.  Vulture.com spoke to Kristin and got to the bottom of that mysterious comment that she threw at Tara.  In the interview Kristin discussed the pairing of Pam/Tara, Pam’s complicated relationship with her maker Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and of course whether or not that sex reference was a mistake.

Although Pam only turned Tara in order to get Sookie (Anna Paquin) to help fix her relationship with Eric, Pam takes her maker duties very seriously.    It may seem on the surface that making them a couple wouldn’t work, Kristin points out that Tara and Pam are actually very similar.  She points out that they are both very tough, not cuddly women and neither trusts people easily or let’s others in.  She also talked about how the writers have Tara and Pam dressing alike and she says that Rutina is very happy about that because her wardrobe in seasons past has not been very exciting.

So what about that reference that Tara and Pam had sex?  Kristin reveals that she’s not exactly sure of when it happened either saying:

There have been many different revisions and different scripts, and there was a time where there was a version of a script where we did see more of that. But now, I’m not exactly sure when and where the writers are referring to. When would they have had time to do this? Before storming the Authority? I remember when I said, “We drank a bitch together, that doesn’t make us Oprah and Gayle,” so was it then? I don’t think so, because that first kiss felt like a first kiss, back in episode twelve of last season. So I’m imagining it was on the beach in the first episode of this season. That’s a possibility. What I’m imagining is that it was fairly tender and intimate, because that moment on the beach is a vulnerable moment that Pam allows to happen, and they’re really bonding. Pam can be like a turtle and pull back into her shell, so I think this was a real first for Pam, to be vulnerable and have another human being — well, another being, another entity, comfort her. She’s only had that with Eric.

Kristin also talked about the jealousy Pam is having at the relationship between Pam and Nora and she explains that Eric is the only person that Pam has ever allowed to get close to her.  She says Pam is also upset because she has always told Eric everything and Eric has been keeping some fairly big secrets.  She gives a little tease of what to expect this season by saying that the love she has for Eric, along with other alliances and relationships will be really tested this season.

Between the anti-vampire movement that is happening, the quest to find Warlow and eliminate the threat to Sookie and the mystery over what exactly Bill is, Kristin was asked if these stories would ultimately converge and she says that some of them will come together:

A lot of story lines do start overlapping. Different people want to fight differently, and they don’t all necessarily include each other. It’s a very challenging year for relationships. And our guest cast is so exceptional that if I don’t have a scene with them, I make sure to hunt them down after the table read or in the parking lot. That’s what I did with Rutger Hauer after the first episode. I’m such a fan of his. I have such reverence for his work, and he’s such an awesome, interesting person. Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies. So I just said, “I’m Kristin, I play Pam. We’re so happy to have you. How are you doing? Are you enjoying your work?” I just gushed over him like a fan would.

Apparently Kristin was extremely fond of her melting face from Season 4 because she has kept a bunch of it and may auction it off along with another prosthetic which she asked the special effects team to give her and she had signed.  She won’t reveal what exactly it is but she says that we will know it when we see it.  Thankfully for Kristin’s sake she’s used to auctioning off strange items – with a lot of success.  She was able to sell Joe Manganiello‘s modesty sock last year and I guess if you can sell that you can sell anything!
