Knob Creek Single Barrel 1910 Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug

Knob Creek Single Barrel 1910 is barrel number three in our 4 barrel lineup and if you’ve noticed there’s a pattern emerging of the barrels getting better and better each day that goes by. Barrel #1 was an 84, Barrel #2 was an 85, Barrel #3 (today’s) is an 87 and Friday’s is… a surprise yet to come. Though I will give this away. If you enjoy rich woody bourbons like I do, and you happen to be near Dallas, TX, you’re really going to like what comes up on Friday.

Knob Creek Single Barrel 1910 Review

EYE
Saddle leather

NOSE
Dense dark fruit, corn, spice, red licorice and vanilla accompanied by light notes of caramel popcorn and wood. Initially the nose on this was coming through incredibly light and even after letting it sit for a bit I wasn’t getting much out of it so I added a wee bit of water and it came to life. So if you pick this up, or any other high proof single barrels, try adding a few drops of water to help kick it open if the nose is closed off.

PALATE
Dried dark fruit, wood, caramel, vanilla and a bold complex ball of spice roll out first followed by notes of toasted biscuits and blackberry taffy. Water wasn’t needed to open the flavor up, but it did help expand it and pushed that blackberry taffy sweetness up a notch.

FINISH
Long and filled with notes of dark fruit, wood and dark sweets.

BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Great balance, full body and a thick heavy feel.

OVERALL
I really like Knob Creek Single Barrel 1910 from Nasa Liquor and am damn glad to have a friend in Houston. Even if the nose was closed off at first I have no qualms with adding a bit of water to anything over 50% ABV. It did still knock a few points off, but given that it’s not a massive inconvenience to add a few drops to get it to open up I have no reason to not say that this is a good whiskey and a completely enjoyable whiskey sipping experience.

SCORE: 87/100
