Phoenix’s KNESSET come off sort of like Cut/Copy by way of a Death Cab For Cutie-infused adolescence on their instrumentally competent new track “RVRSE.” As the song’s title may lightly imply, “RVRSE” is underpinned by a loop of backwards ambient guitar, that sounds like trickly electronica. But this is wide open indie rock at heart, and the thudding drums and loose guitars give “RVRSE” the appearance of something like the most recent Frightened Rabbit album. Without dipping too deeply into emotional quagmires, KNESSET churn angst and heartbreak into direct and succinct indie rock, capable of holding its own alongside any of its post-emo forebears.
