Kirstie Allsopp Stroked My Calligraphy on the Telly!

Calligraphy ideas for your own vintage wedding

I’ve just had the loveliest email about my calligraphy from Amy and Craig’s vintage wedding earlier this year. I wanted to share some of it with you, because I’m proud and because I love the way Kirstie Allsopp created something really beautiful from a very simple handwritten luggage name tag!

Kirstie and her fab team at Raise The Roof Productions worked with wedding suppliers to design these luscious table decorations and place settings.

The flowers and foliage are incredible, but you can create your own gorgeous place settings with a few simple steps too. If writing your own calligraphy, use a colourful gel pen and add big loops to your handwriting — it will look quirky and suit a vintage wedding theme.

Or use anything colourful instead of the carnations here — paper flowers, assorted fabric napkins, jewelled napkin rings. When they’re all set out on tables they’ll look fab!

(I’ve just realised this is upside down. If you’re reading this blog post on your iPad or mobile you’ll be ok! Everyone else, you’ll have to use your imaginations I’m afraid… the name is Sadie Crisp!)

Amy’s mom — the lovely Jan — told me, “It was a wonderful occasion and Amy and Craig couldn’t have wished for a better day. The joy for us was that it remained a family affair, in which we were all involved, and that was about real love rather than about TV or celebrity! Kirstie and the production team were great and highly sensitive to the fact that this was a once in a lifetime moment for our families and friends.

“We really can’t thank you enough for your contribution to the day — people such as yourself were overwhelmingly kind in the time and expertise that they gave and we feel so very fortunate.”

I’m so pleased to see my calligraphy was a feature of this amazing wedding. Amy and Craig’s big day means more to me than working on celebrity weddings or luxury events — they’re a lovely couple, and they’re real people who chose to use calligraphy in a creative way. As Kirstie has said, the calligraphy costs less than you might think, and I love seeing it in such a fabulously creative context!

It’s especially nice to see Kirstie stroking it though… that image tickles me
