Kim & Rob’s Kingston Maurward wedding back in July was one long hot beautiful English summer wedding. I know its hard to imagine, especially as I sit here writing with the rain & wind thrashing hard against the window panes.
It’s not that often the heat and the intense sunshine make such an appearance, where a photographer can confidently decide to post pone portraits till later in the day, knowing that as the sun goes down the light will be magical. Providing the sort of conditions ideal for portraiture, being softer, with a warm color temperature, along with creative opportunities to work with the long shadows and contre-jour.
Kim works at a local college as an art tutor. Upon our first meeting, it was clearly important to her to find the right photographer. One that shared a similar eye for perspective, for seeing past the obvious, identifying real moments.
This ability differentiates one Kingston Maurward wedding from another and makes each couples day ‘their day’. The building, along with its grounds may be the same as it was two weeks earlier at another wedding, but the energy of the people, their connection and the moments that arise, will be completely different.
Developing the eye, looking deeper and challenging myself to capture new compositions in familiar territory, brings forth a rich bounty.
Kingston Maurward Summer Weddings
With time on our side, we had plenty of opportunity to work with the weather and the aesthetics of the venue. The peak midday sun, found us taking shelter within the Japanese garden for a few portraits. Heavily planted with its cooling shade, a brief 15 minute shoot before heading back to the other wedding guests.
Similarly, come early evening – we made for the open garden areas, capturing the long shadows falling on the lawns, along with natural portraits.
Kim & Rob’s day was a beautiful summer wedding with a great relaxed pace all of its own. Guests being free to fully explore the venue and bathe in summer sun. Great people, close family and a delight to work with.
