Kim Jong Un Visits Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory

DPRK state media reported on June 16 (Thursday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) visited the Pyongyang Cornstarch factory which has reportedly been renovated.  Also in attendance were An Jong Su (Director of the Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Light Industry Department), Jo Yong Won (deputy director of the WPK Organization Guidance Department) and Sin Man Gyun (deputy director of the WPK Light Industry Department).

Jong Un first stopped off at a recently built rooms depicting the factory revolutionary history and its own institutional history.  Whilst looking over “date showing the glorious path of development covered by the factory,” he remarked that “it turned into a large-scale food processing base thanks to the leadership and care of President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il.  The factory should always remember the noble loving care they had shown for the people for improving the standard o their living all their lives.”

Kim Jong Un recalled a previous occasion when he visited the factory with late DPRK leader Kim Jong Il during August 2010 and he said that the “well arranged rooms” for revolutionary and institutional history “might convey to posterity the profound loving care shown byt eh great leaders for the supply of confectionary to the people.  Visiting the room for the education in the revolutionary history alone one may know well about the exploits Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il performed by dedicating themselves to the people and the WPK’s policy of developing the food industry.”  He noted that “a lot of historical materials displayed in the room serve as a banner putting spurs to the development of the food industry and dynamically encouraging its workers in their drive to increase production.”

He toured different shops and locales in the factory where he was briefed about its renovations.  He said the “factory put all production processes including corn-processing process, millet jelly production process, Oktang sugar production process, cake production process and candy production process on an automated, streamlined, germ- and dust-free basis on a high level and established a strict system for test of quality, thus making it possible to rapidly boost productivity with less manpower and thoroughly ensure the hygienic safety of the products.”  He said that the “biggest success registered by the factory in its modernization is that the proportion of locally produced equipment has reached more than 95 percent” and he noted that “cutting-edfe equipment designed and manufactured by the DPRK are running in all production processes from the raw material feeding to packing of products.  All of them look nice.  The field of food industry has taken lead in implementing the party’s line of locally producing equipment in recent years.”

Jong Un pointed out that the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory “has turned into the one to be proud of against the backdrop of a high-pitched drive for updating production facilities in our own way with local production of equipment as the core sweeping the whole country.”  He was pleased to know that “the factory is the one holding high the banner of Chuch’e-orientation, the one worthy of being a model in creating the spirit of self-reliance and self-development and the one carrying out modernization.”  At the end of his on-site inspection, Kim Jong Un attended a commemorative photo-op with the cornstarch factory’s managers, employees and functionaries.
