Kim Jong Un Visits Opthalmic Hospital

DPRK state media reported on October 18 (Tuesday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) visited the Ryugyo’ng General Opthalmic Hospital in east Pyongyang.  Also in attendance were: Workers’ Party of Korea [WPK] Vice Chairman for Workers’ and Social Organizations Choe Ryong Hae [Ch’oe Ryong-hae], WPK Vice Chairman for Science and Education Choe Thae Bok [Ch’oe T’ae-pok], WPK Finance and Accounting Department Director Kim Yong Su [Kim Yo’ng-su], WPK Department Deputy Directors Jo Yong Won [Cho Yo’ng-wo’n] and Ri Mun Gon [Ri Mu’n-ko’n] and State Affairs Commission Design Department Director MA Won Chun [Ma Wo’n-ch’un].

Kim Jong Un remarked, “with a broad smile on face,” that the hospital “has already been built wonderfully through he choses its site in January.  The external form clearly show it an opthalmic hospital as the facade of its outpatient ward depicts man’s eye and an eye-chart is displayed on its inpatient ward’s outer wall.”  Jong Un noted that “Munsu area has turned into a more perfect hospital village as it is intensively arranged with such hospitals as Breast Tumor Institute of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, Ryuygyo’ng Dental Hospital and Okryu Children’s hospital, as well as the modern Ryugyo’ng General Opthalmic Hospital.”  He said he was “very pleased to picture the people enjoying the benefits of the socialist healthcare system to the full.”

He toured the hospital’s ward and was briefed about the hospital’s “construction and specifications of its equipment and facilities.”  Jong Un said that the hospitals is “of the highest level in design and construction…it is a perfect medical center as it was built in close cooperation of the three parties–the designers, constructor and operators units–to fully meet the demands for architectural beauty, convenience and predictability as intended by the Party.

Jong Un noted that “the hospital is equipped with all the best and ultra-modern facilities necessary for opthalmic treatment.”  He also toured an optometrist’s shop.  He said that “people will be very glad to visit the shop as its counters are full of spectacles of all kinds for adults and children, including sports glasses, accessories and optical apparatuses” and noted that “the shop has an eye-sight test room, correction room and processing room to ensure the scientific accuracy, kindliness and promptness in eye-glass service.”

Kim Jong Un issued “tasks for managing and operating the hospital and gave an instruction to a relevant unit to arrange modern technical processes for producing the various rims of spectacles like by people.”  He said that “Ryugyo’ng General Opthalmic Hospital is a perfect hospital of which the DPRK can boast to the world” and noted “pleasure that one of his strong wishes for the people has come true.”
