Kim Jong Un’s last observed appearance was his attendance at a photo-op with 7th Party Congress participants
DPRK state media reported on May 13 (Friday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) toured an exhibition of machines and equipment, reportedly “manufactured as labor gifts of loyalty to be presented to the congress of the motherly party.” Visiting the exhibition with him were Vice Marshal Hwang Pyong So (Director of the KPA General Political Department), Pak Pong Ju (DPRK Premier), Choe Ryong Hae (Workers’ Party of Korea Vice Chairman for Workers’ and Social Organizations), Kim Ki Nam (WPK Vice Chairman for and Director of Propaganda and Agitation), Choe T’ae Bok (WPK Vice Chairman for Science and Education), Ri Su Yong (WPK Vice Chairman and Director of International Affairs), Kim Phyong (P’yo’ng) Hae (WPK Vice Chairman for and Director of Cadres’ Affairs), O Su Yong (WPK Vice Chairman and Director of Light Industry), Kwak Pom Gi (WPK Vice Chairman for and Director of Planning and Finance), Kim Yong Chol (WPK Vice Chairman for and Director of Intelligence and South Korean Affairs), Ri Man Gon (WPK Vice Chairman for and Director of Munitions Industries) and Ri Chol Man (Director of the WPK Central Committee Machine Building Industry Department).

Kim Jong Un looked at a variety of engines, vehicles and machine including a new model of tractor developed by Ku’mso’ng Tractor Plant and said that “it is a great success that the factory manufactured the new type tractor with great capacity whose all aspects of technical performance are on the world’s level by its own efforts and with indigenous technology.” He saw farm machines produced domestically and said “they have been made well to suit the natural and topographical features of the country and the physical constitution of Korean.” Jong Un also saw a 5-ton truck manufactured by the Su’ngni Automobile Complex in To’kch’o’n, South P’yo’ngan Province, a locomotive produced at the Kim Jong T’ae Electric Locomotive Complex, a fishing trawler, a cargo ship and said with “great pleasure that they made the proud achievements conducive to developing the railway transport, fishing industry and maritime transport of the country” and “with satisfaction that looked very nice and great. The exhibition was eventual significance in instilling conviction and optimism into all the service personnel and people all out in the general charge for building a thriving nation, holding high the slogan of giving priority to self-development.”

Kim Jong Un noted that “the machine products on display at the exhibition proved once again that the self-development is the best and self-reliance and self-development are the way for us to live…we should root out the proclivity to import without fail and put a definite end to it.” He “gave thanks to the units for having successfully made various machine products by giving full play to the self-development-first-principle in the name of the Seventh Congress of the WPK” and issued instruction to “start their serial production as soon as possible.” Jong Un said that “we should in the future, too, strengthen our own force by our own efforts with indigenous technology and resources and uphold the self-development first principle, the revolutionary spirit of hewing our our way. Only our own strength is what we can believe in.”
