DPRK state media reported on 30 December (Sunday) that Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) participated in a commemorative photo session with scientists, technicians and other personnel who contributed to the 12 December 2012 launch of the U’nha-3 rocket. KJU’s last reported public appearance was his visit to the Ku’msusan Memorial Palace, with senior military and security officials, on 24 December. The photo session occurred in front of the Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] Central Committee’s #1 Office Building. Also attending the photo op with KJU were Kim Yong Nam, Choe Yong Rim, Gen. Choe Ryong Hae, Jang Song Taek, Kim Kyong Hui, Kim Ki Nam, Choe Tae Bok, Pak To Chun, VMar Kim Yong Chun, Kim Yang Gon, Kim Yong Il, Kim P’yo’ng Hae, Kwak Pom Gi, Mun Kyong Dok, Ju Kyu Chang and Jo Yon Jun, KCST/SANS senior officials Choe Chun Sik and Ri Ung Won and directors and senior deputy (1st vice) directors of KWP Central Committee Departments.
According to KCNA, Kim Jong Un “highly praised once again the scientists, technicians, workers and officials for successfully launching satellite Kwangmyo’ngso’ng 3-2, the first working satellite of the DPRK, thereby creditably carrying out the behests of the great General Kim Jong Il and fully demonstrating the tremendous national power of the great Mt. Paektu (Paektusan) nation” and he “expressed expectation and conviction that they would develop and launch varieties of working satellites and carrier rockets of greater performance with the same vim and vigor with which they successfully launched Kwangmyo’ngso’ng 3-2 and thus glorify the DPRK as a space power to be envied by the world.”
