Killer Book Club

Where I Watched it: Netflix

English Audio Description Provided By Diffuse

One of the first questions I intend to ever ask a Netflix executive is why they think its OK to not provide English audio description for Best picture nominee Roma, which Alfonso Cuaron made for Netflix, and damn near got them their Best Picture Oscar. Yet, this random slasher trash has audio description? Please.

There’s not much i can offer to Killer Book Club right now, as it’s November, and I did see this film back in August. However, I did find the movie confusing at times even with the audio description, as several key moments in the film didn’t make sense. There’s a catalyst death that sets forth this I Know What you Did Last Summer ish plot that I was trying to follow. But, honestly, the movie has several moments where it refuses to make sense, almost like it thinks slasher fans don’t care.I won’t totally say that the idea is without merit, but in many ways, it’s just a slasher version of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, where a book is being written, and the next victim is in the next chapter. Like any slasher, I did have fun trying to figure out who the killer (or killers) was, but I kept thinking how I can’t watch Roma, but I can watch this fucking thing.

I’m not familiar with Diffuse as a company that does audio description, but the fact that I found it hard to follow in certain scenes, doesn’t bode well. It’s possible, and I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, that the film does just suck that bad. but, there is this random quality to it, almost like what Truth or Dare had, where it’s the fun kind of shitty awful, and not the painstaking awful that makes you run from the room. it’s cheesy, I hate the killer (or the choice of killer), and yet I had fun seeing who would live or die, and trying to predict this film.

Months later, I do remember parts of this. I couldn’t give you a play by play, but I could have an intelligent conversation with a group that had already seen it, as they job my memory in certain parts. I can’t even remember the grade I gave this for my YouTube video. I’m not sure it matters. I can’t imagine anyone actually wants to see this.

Final Grade: D+
