I have been wanting to make my kids art smocks or aprons for months. Now that my boys are into the art supplies and painting, it's best for easy clean ups.
So, before the Easter weekend, I quickly whipped some up. In fact, the project was SO easy, that I wish I'd done it sooner. The fact that I had 3 of them to make, I think, intimidated me a little. I'm always such a big fan of a quick and easy project, and I was able to make all 3 in less than an hour!
And I have the tutorial for you to make one too!
What you need:vinyl tablecloth (mine were cheap dollar store ones)velcrorotary cutter and mat (scissors work fine if you don't have one)
First off, fold your vinyl tablecloth in half, using the fold on top.Use your child's shirt as an indicator and add 1 to 1.5 inches on each side and about 2-3 inches on the bottom.Cut around the perimeter of the shirt, leaving the folded top alone.
Round the bottom edges with your cutter.
Get a marker to mark out a neckline.
Cut it out with your rotary cutter.
Open up your apron and cut a slit in the back of the neck hole that's about 2-3 inches long.
Serge all your edges or use a zigzag stitch. You can leave the edges raw if you like too, the serging/stitching will prolong the life a little longer.
Cut two pieces of velcro about 2 1/2 inches in length.
Mark out where you'll want your velcro, I put mine in the middle of each of the sides. You can use paper clips to hold them in place (as to not have pin holes in your vinyl).
Sew on your velcro.
And that's all there is to it. How easy was that?!
New art smocks for the kiddies!!
Here are the backs of the aprons.
I was probably more excited about them than they were... nothing like fake smiles..
But I thought they were pretty cute!
And they worked perfectly for Easter weekend when we dyed our eggs.
The little guys loved rolling the eggs around in the dye with their spoons.
The boys loved their colored eggs!!
Even eating them..
And my princess was pretty proud of her 'mixing colors' to make purple.
How was your Easter?
