Kia Seltos Vs Hyundai Creta Base Variant: Which One Is Better?

Posted on the 11 October 2020 by Thiruvenkatam Chinnagounder @tipsclear

Here is a comparison of the two hot subcompact SUVs in India: Kia Seltos and Hyundai New Creta. Hyundai Creta is one of the best-selling subcompact SUVs, and many people are quite familiar with the car.

However, the entry of its cousin Kia Seltos divided the interest of the masses. Kia Seltos is quite attractive, both in terms of functionality and design, and comes at a similar price.

In 2019, the South Korean automaker Kia Engines debuts in the Indian market with Seltos. The company is owned by Hyundai Motors; therefore, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta share the same platform, chassis, and even engines.

However, there are subtle changes in features, appearance and interior that make the difference. Today we will compare all of these, and in the end we will try to conclude which one will be the best for you?

2020 Kia Seltos Vs Hyundai Creta: Base Variant

The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are available in petrol and diesel versions. However, here we will only compare the petrol versions of these subcompact SUVs. The base variant " Hyundai New Creta E " is priced at Rs 9.81 lakh (ex-showroom), while the price of Kia Seltos HTE (base model) starts at Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

Comparison of exterior characteristics

Starting from the front profile, the new Creta E is fitted with halogen headlamps, turn signals, daytime running lights and front grilles without the chrome border. On the other hand, Kia Seltos has halogen headlights, turn signals and parking lights. In addition, the front grilles of Seltos are decorated with a chrome border.

LED daytime running lights and fog lights are available in premium variants of both cars.

Moving on to the side profile, the Kia Seltos side indicator is present on the fender. However, in Hyundai Creta it is integrated into the side mirror, which looks more streamlined. Both cars have the same 16 inch wheels with different styles of steel caps.

If we talk about the rear profile, Creta looks slightly better. It has a DRL type tail light with halogen lights, turn signals, reflectors and parking sensors. Kia Seltos, on the other hand, has similar characteristics; however, its tail light looks more like the older Creta variant.

The base Creta variant comes with a spoiler and the Seltos has a shark fin antenna. Other than that, Kia Seltos HTE is only available in two colors and is non-metallic too. Hyundai, on the other hand, does offer a metallic paint with six different color options in the base Creta E variant.

Interior features: explained

Kia Seltos comes with modded audio steering controls. It also provides a four speaker, single din stereo system. In addition, there are two USB ports and a sunglasses holder. All of these features are missing from the Hyundai Creta E.

What isn't in Seltos and offered in Creta is a cooled glove box, electronically adjustable side mirrors, flat-bottom steering and a two-tone interior. In addition, both cars have all four power windows and a charging port.

Performance

As mentioned earlier, both cars share the same 1.5-liter MPi BS6 gasoline engine. It is capable of producing around 113 BHP and 144 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

In addition, the two compact SUVs have a fuel capacity of fifty liters. One of the biggest advantages of Kia Seltos over Hyundai Creta is that it has the option of the four disc brakes, which makes braking better and safer.

Conclusion Kia Seltos Vs Hyundai Creta: which one to buy?

It is quite difficult to choose between the two cars based on their specifications as they are more or less the same. However, if you consider the service network and aftermarket value, then Hyundai clearly stands out in both. However, we hope that over the next four to five years, Kia Motors can easily expand its service network across the country.

If we are talking about design, then the front look of Kia Seltos is better than that of New Creta, and the interior is also more premium. Either way, it largely depends on an individual, which attracts them more.

In short, the Hyundai Creta is a great car, but if you are looking for something fresh, Kia Seltos is worth buying.

This is just a personal opinion and we would love to hear your take on the same. So drop your views in the comments section below.
