French producer Stwo is blowing up on the heels of his EP Beyond, released by ultra-happening electronic/hiphop e-label Live For The Funk. Beyond is a masterpiece, but Stwo’s remix of Keyshia Cole’s underappreciated 2006 slow-jam captures all the best elements of the EP: glittering synthesizers, gentle keyboards and subtle drums, all pitted against Cole’s vocal acrobatics. Hints of garage and trap surface in the hi-hats and cymbals, but the track stays true to its r’n'b roots throughout, showing off KC’s beautiful melodies and the chords of the original without flipping it into a womp-womp nightmare. And those wind chimes… Damn.
