Kestrels – ‘Grey and Blue’

Featuring Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis on lead guitar, Kestrels’ new single ‘Grey and Blue’ is the first song to be taken from the Halifax, Nova Scotia bands’ forthcoming record ‘Dream or Don’t Dream’ (out on 10 July via Darla Records) – an album that was largely written on Tim Wheeler from Ash’s sofa.

The power pop hooks are joined by relentless drums and plenty of fuzzy reverb that will take you right back to the best scenes of the early ’90s. As well as the grungey Breeders-esque undertones and inevitable shredding solo, the song is bursting with the kind of pop songwriting sensibilities that served The Pastels so well. It’s a real treat.
