Kelum Jayasumana, a social activist, has been granted bail following his arrest for sharing posts on social media related to Mahaviru commemorations.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered his release on bail after he was presented before the court.

During the proceedings, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that the suspect had downloaded and reshared an image originally uploaded by a French woman on Facebook. The image reportedly contained prohibited symbols associated with the LTTE organization.

The CID officers argued that the act disrupted public order and jeopardized ethnic harmony, emphasizing that no such commemorative event had occurred in the Northern region. They further requested that the suspect remain in custody as the investigation is still ongoing.
