Are you looking to sell your home? There are a few things you can do to speed up the process by making it more attractive to potential buyers. Not only that, as you begin to prepare to relocate to another premises it will make living there a whole lot easier in the meantime. If you are selling your home then chances are you are looking for a new one yourself, so get into that buyers mind set when looking at your own home and getting it ready to show to potential suitors. Here are a few ideas to make your home appealing to each and every visitor:
1. Get rid of the clutter.
The people looking round your home are trying to imagine themselves living there, so don’t put up any barriers to this thought process. When we have been living in one place for some time we tend to build up a collection of all manner of items. Take a look around and decide whether you really need it, and if you don’t then get rid of it before anyone steps foot in your home. This will also give you considerably less to move when it comes to your impending relocation, and what you do keep will already have been sorted through making it easier to pack. A cluttered home is not easy on the eye, so get rid of everything and anything that doesn’t need to be there.
2. Re-arrange your kitchen and bedroom cupboards.
Buyers love to investigate each and every nook and cranny of the prospective homes they visit. If it is going to come with the house, then you need to be prepared for people to look inside. Built in wardrobes, kitchen cupboards, they are all potential hiding places for something untidy and potentially off-putting. If you have a cupboard under the stairs don’t cram it full of stuff that used to reside in other rooms, sort through the items in question and find another, tidier home for them.
3. De-personalize as much as possible
As mentioned earlier, you need to allow prospective visitors to imagine themselves living in what is currently your home. Being continually reminded of you as the current inhabitants through family portraits and other personal items will be distracting and off putting to visitors. Try to neutralize wherever possible, otherwise in basic terms you are marking the territory as yours, which is exactly what you do not want to do.
4. Make repairs and clean everything
A spring clean is absolutely necessary before putting a house on the market, getting rid of anything unnecessary but also making sure that absolutely everything shines and sparkles. Take the time to clean windows, cupboard spaces, dust thoroughly and maintain this level of cleanliness throughout the selling process. Tidy your garden and make sure you vacuum inside daily, or at least before every visit.
5. Make sure it smells good
It may sound silly but our homes can contain some odd odors. If there are any poorly ventilated cupboards that may be a little musty or unused rooms that haven’t had any windows open for a while make sure you open some windows and give the place a fresh, inviting feel.
Maintaining a clean and orderly home is essential to facilitate a quick sale. It isn’t difficult, but will require some thought, so make sure you take the time to scrutinize and evaluate as you go.
