Katie & Luke (the Second Wedding!) // Boomrock, Wellington // Sarah McEvoy Photography

By Jax

“Katie and Luke were lucky enough to get married twice! First in London, and this is their New Zealand wedding. They were married (again!) at Boomrock, just outside of Wellington, perched on the side of a cliff overlooking the Tasman Sea, stunning views just begins to sum it up.”

From the Bride, Katie…

“Right from the outset, we wanted our wedding day to involve as many of our family and friends as possible – which is no easy feat when as a couple, you come from opposite sides of the world.  We quickly realised that this conundrum was a positive – if we celebrated our wedding in both of our home towns, we could try to make it as easy as possible for people to be there and get the benefits of 2 completely different seasons… And so the planning of our winter and summer weddings began!

I knew the Wellington summer can be a bit of a gamble, but from the moment I stumbled across Boomrock, I just knew it was the place for us.  An amazing setting, food to die for, close to where I grew up – the perfect location and in sharing my plan with my beloved, I think I had him from the moment I mentioned golf, shooting AND helicopters…

The day was just perfect.  One of those rare Wellington days where the sun was shining, barely a cloud in the sky and no wind! Everything ran like clockwork – Justine and the team at Boomrock are absolute legends.  They took such great care of our guests and no request was too big or small.

And speaking of photos, Sarah, our photographer was incredible. Getting our pictures back, it was obvious that Sarah paid careful attention to every little detail of our exchanges – capturing so many special times with our nearest and dearest. What really stands out is images that Sarah has caught which are beyond your ’normal’ wedding shot – my nieces playing with their great aunt observing, old and young – the expressions on peoples faces, things going on in the background which would have been impossible to take in on the day.  Every time I look at the photos I see something different.

It was always going to be tricky to organise things from the other side of the world but I was blown away by how supportive everyone was.  My family were amazing – they all pitched in to help.  A family friend was the celebrant and made our amazing cake.  A close friend organised hair and make up for my bridesmaid and I, my wonderful bridesmaid sorted her own dress.  A friend’s mother is a florist and she put together the most amazing flowers with very vague instructions from me… the list goes on and we are eternally grateful.

It really was everything we hoped for and more. I’m so happy that we got to share such a perfect day with all of our wonderful friends and family and that my home town put on such an amazing show for our visitors from the UK!  It’s fair to say that it has been very hard to adjust back to life in gray ol’ London.”

The way I shoot at weddings is by stepping back and responding to the action and surroundings; documenting the day, capturing natural moments, just noticing, paying attention. I’m not really about posing so much. When we are shooting portraits it’s just you guys hanging out being all in love, which always looks good. And I’m there clicking away, soaking it up.
