Kanye West has reportedly settled the lawsuit filed against him when he allegedly attacked a videographer named Daniel Ramos outside of the Los Angeles International Airport back in 2013.
According to PEOPLE, it is unclear as to whether Ramos was awarded any money in the settlement, but according to his lawyer, Gloria Allred, one of the terms of the settlement was for Kanye to apologize. Both men were photographed shaking hands and smiling, so it looks like the apology definitely took place.
Allred explained the settlement, saying in a statement, “This case was set for trial next week on April 14, 2015. However, today we filed a dismissal because the case was settled to the satisfaction of the parties. We cannot discuss the details of the settlement, except to say that one important aspect of it was an apology by Kanye West to our client, Daniel Ramos.”
Kanye was charged with “misdemeanor battery and attempted grand theft” following the July 2013 scuffle, when he reportedly punch Ramos and tried to take his camera from him. Kanye pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him, saying he was only acting in self-defense at the time.
Allred went on to claim that the case itself brings an important message to light. She said, “We are very proud of our client Danny Ramos and his courage in bringing and pursuing this case which was so important to him and many other celebrity photographers. We believe that this case sent an important message. Celebrities are not above the law, and they have no right to physically attack someone simply because they were asked a question.”
