Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) is expected to conduct Junior National Athletic championship from May 9 to 12 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The events of under 16, 18, 20 and under 23 will conduct at this four day event. The entries will close on May 3 and entries should send to Palitha Jayathileke, The Competition Committee, Sri Lanka Athletics, No 33, Independents Avenue, Colombo 07.
According to the Vice President of SLA G.L.S Perera last two years 2020 and 2021 this event couldn’t conduct due to global pandemic. This is once again good opportunity for the youngsters to show their talents.
Last time in 2019 this event was held without the under 23 age group.
However SLA this time has included the under 23 age group to give an opportunity to the athletes who missed competition in the under 20 age group during the last two years. This is good decision by SLA as during the last two years the athletes who were to complete under 20 age group did not get their final opportunity to take part junior category.
The world junior Athletic championship will be held from August 1 to 6 in Cali, Colombia and Sri Lankan junior athletes have already selected for this major event after conducting selections trials recently but this junior Athletic championship is also a good opportunity for yougesters to get exposure.
