What and WhereJourney through Deccan food festival Blooms, Eros Hotel Nehru Placeaug 27- sept 5Lunch(1750 + taxes) and Dinner(1850 + taxes) both Phone - 011-41331650 Delhi has opened up to various international cuisines, but somehow has neglected our regional cuisines. Even the state bhavans have deserted the authenticity and moved on to suit the mainstream palate. Talking about Coastal South Indian cuisine, barring the restaurants in the five stars and few high-end stand alone brands, there is a dearth of mid-range brands serving authentic South Indian coastal food.
Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu gives you a diversified flavor of South India Cuisine and little do we know that though most of the dishes are common – typically – Dosa, Utthapam, Vada, Idli and Sambar to name a few ,known amongst the vegetarian dishes, yet each region renders a unique taste and spiciness. Most of us like south Indian food and visit various places to curb the urge of relishing south Indian delicacies. I have been also a very big fan of south Indian food and have been to most of the places in delhi/ncr Coastal food has always been my favorite, mainly because of my long stint with Mumbai. Couple of places has been my favorite in Delhi like gunpowder and swagath. Gunpowder recently shut down and Swagath has lost its charm now.Recently Eros Hotel, Nehru place did food promotion “Journey through the Deccan “showcasing some of the selected dishes from different states of southern India. In my discussion with Executive Chef Suprabhat Roy and F&B Head Umesh Dalal, they shared that chef, himself, contributed to the idea of this promotion as he had worked with Karavaili in Banglore which recently completed 25 years and is considered to be one of the finest restaurant which serves the most authentic south Indian food. We had flavorful rasam that was refreshing and followed by shikhampur kebab( Hyderabadi delicacy) along with pepper fry prawns and both were equally delicious. I loved the kerala chicken stew with fresh and hot appam and Malabar parantha that simply lifts your spirit. Mutton sukha and ambur chicken biryani (Chennai specialty) was marvelous. I am sure that this journey through deccan will definitely satiate your craving for south indian food. This was a week-long food festival that had dishes from most of the part of south india. The festival ends today.
