St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, and Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, emerged as Boys’ and Girls’ swimming champions at the 47th Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championship which concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Complex yesterday.
St Joseph’s swimmers coached by Ruwan Manawadu once again finished in grand style as they collected the highest points of 613 while St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya (402) and Ananda College, Colombo, (300) were placed second and third in the boys’ team events.
Meanwhile, Visakhians dominated the girls’ swimming events by collecting the highest points of 475 to win the girls’ overall title while Ladies College Colombo with 301.50 points and Lyceum International Wattala with 267 points finished second and third respectively. Vandani Fernando of Kalutara Balika won the Girls’ Under 14 Individual Champions award while Anandian promising swimmer M.M Ekneligoda having two records won the boys under 14 Best Swimmer award.
Jessie Seneviratne of HFC Bambalapitiya and Adeetha Seneviratne of Wesley were awarded under 16 Best girls and boys swimming awards. Hiruki de Silva of Gateway International and Chris Pavithra of St Peters Bambalapitiya won girls and boys under 18 Best Swimmers awards.
