Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston is open and giving away donated clothes, toys and towels.
Joel Osteen received backlash over the weekend on social media from folks claiming that his Mega Church had closed its doors to Harvey flood victims.
A message on the church’s social media account stated that the venue was “inaccessible due to severe flooding” following Hurricane Harvey.
On Monday Lakewood Church released the following statement:
“We have never closed our doors. We will continue to be a distribution center for those in need,” church spokesman and Osteen’s father-in-law Donald Iloff said. “We are prepared to shelter people once the cities and county shelters reach capacity. Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm in helping our fellow citizens rebuild their lives.”-We are no longer accepting clothes or shoes. We are taking donations between 10am and 6pm each day. Thank you so much.
