Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston is open and giving away donated clothes, toys and towels.

Lakewood’s lobby was  lined with clothes, towels, toys, diapers, books and more on Tuesday morning.

Joel Osteen received backlash over the weekend on social media from folks claiming that his  Mega Church had closed its doors to Harvey flood victims.

A message on the church’s social media account  stated that the venue was “inaccessible due to severe flooding” following Hurricane Harvey.

On Monday Lakewood Church released the following statement:

“We have never closed our doors. We will continue to be a distribution center for those in need,” church spokesman and Osteen’s father-in-law Donald Iloff said. “We are prepared to shelter people once the cities and county shelters reach capacity. Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm in helping our fellow citizens rebuild their lives.” Lakewood church is asking for donations to be able to continue to serve the citizens of Houston affected by the storm. Houston, Lakewood Church is in need of certain supplies to help those sheltered at the church and to distribute to other shelters in the Houston area. Our immediate needs are: -Diapers, wipes, new underwear, stuffed animals, deodorant, cots, and food.
-We are no longer accepting clothes or shoes. We are taking donations between 10am and 6pm each day. Thank you so much.
