Open source office packages are getting very popular these days as Microsoft seem to be asking a bit too much with the recently released MS Office packages.   There are a lot of free office packages out there already. Now a small-time developer team, “Japplis” has launched another free office package named “Joeffice”, which was written in Java. It works on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. And also supports a few Microsoft document types as well.

Joeffice developer Anthony Goubard has revealed some details about this new office package during an interview with Ars Technica, according to this email interview, he says that he built this software and launched it within 30 days. That’s really a very short time for launching a software package. And he seems to have done a pretty good job at it.

You can now download the 1st Alpha version of Joeffice for free through here. The download is surprisingly very small at just 14 MB. However, this office package is still in development so the creator has warned that some features may not be stable.
