Actor Joaquin Phoenix revealed in an interview with the NY Times that he agreed to play Jesus in the upcoming film ‘Mary Magdalene’ because he was looking for something “meaningful” in his life.
Via NY Times:
When asked why he decided to play Jesus in the upcoming ‘‘Mary Magdalene,’’ a retelling of the New Testament story by the director Garth Davis, he says, ‘‘I was looking for something meaningful. I was looking for an experience. I was friends with Rooney.’’ (Rooney Mara plays Mary Magdalene in the movie. The two are now a couple.) Jesus, in the film, is ‘‘just a man’’ and playing him was ‘‘just instinct, just a gut feeling.’’
Phoenix who lives with his ‘Mary Magdalene’ co-star Rooney Mara in the Hollywood Hills revealed that his daily routine consists of meditating, hanging with his dog, checking emails, doing karate, eating dinner, and reading scripts. The actor also revealed that he is in bed by 9:00 p.m. and up by 6:00 a.am.
‘Mary Magdalene’ will make its big screen debut in March of 2018, the same weekend as Tyler Perry’s ‘She’s Living My Life.’
