Jim O’Rourke – “Low Bow”

A seven and a half minute series of textures and looping electronics that sounds like it could soundtrack a National Geographic documentary on deep sea life is how I might describe Jim O’Rourke’s “Low Bow”. The song is so vague and deconstructed, though, that its meandering beauty is open to almost any interpretation. What is literally true of “Low Bow” is that O’Rourke has managed – once again – to turn the guitar into something alien, effusive, and entirely abstract. “Low Bow”, which will be available September 23 on the compilation Air Texture Vol. III, is not the kind of song you listen to; it’s the kind of song you steep in.
