JFF Plus: Online Festival 2020

By Clari @clarisaysblog

If you are following me on Instagram, you might have seen my stories about a Japanese film festival press briefing. I was talking about JFF Plus: Online Festival.

Are you familiar with EIGASAI? In my old blog, I would always mention the Japanese film festival. I remember lining up at Shangri-La Plaza almost every year (I could not attend all the time because of my work hours). But last year the said festival has already bid farewell, or rather sayonara. And this year, the Japan Foundation Manila (JFM) has decided to go online. With the COVID-19 pandemic, streaming a selection of films than screening in movie theatres is the best move.

Honestly, I have learned about this during the Cinemalaya 2020 press briefing. When I received an invitation, I became excited because this means that I do not need to line up; not to mention, I get to watch all. But what got me even more excited was the fact that the organisers made sure the films screened at the JFF Plus: Online Festival 2020 are not available on Netflix.

Another great thing is that JFF Plus: Online Festival is free. All you need to do is have your gadgets ready and sign up here: https://watch.jff.jpf.go.jp/

  • Take note of the following though:
  • To watch the films on a Windows PC, you can only watch using Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.
  • To watch the films on a Mac computer, you can access via the Safari browser.
  • Mobile platforms (Android and iOS) can use any web browser to enjoy the films.

The JFF Plus: Online Festival 2020 will run from November 20 to 29, 2020 and you can catch 28 contemporary and classic Japanese films!

Happy viewing and stay tuned for my reviews!
