Jemele Hill is leaving ESPN’s Sportscenter, and according to reports it was her decision.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hill’s departure from SportsCenter is of her own choosing, and that she approached ESPN with the decision to leave. Those claims have been corroborated by reports in Sports Illustrated, and CNN Money.
Jemele will remain at ESPN, writing for The Undefeated, which is an arm of the network, that is dedicated to race, culture, sports and HBCU’s. She’ll also host issues-based town halls, and Hill recently revealed that she has started a production company with friend and ESPN colleague Kelly Carter.
Back in October, ESPN suspended the sports journalist for two weeks after she condemned Dallas Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones on Twitter for saying that he would not let any player “who disrespects the flag” onto the field.
Hill had tweeted, “If you strongly reject what Jerry Jones said, the key is his advertisers. Don’t place the burden squarely on the players.”
Hill defended ESPN for their decision to suspend her, but said that she would never take back what she said.
“I’ll never take back what I said,” Hill said during an impromptu interview when asked by TMZ.
“I violated the policy. Going forward, we’ll be in a good, healthy place,” she continued.
Jemele Hill’s last day on the SC6, will be Friday, Feb. 2nd according to reports.
