“I'm fine, thank God,” said the 30 year-old head of state in a video broadcast live on his Facebook account since gardens of his official residence, in Brasilia. “I did a test yesterday in the morning and in the evening the result showed that I was still positive for the coronavirus.”

Confined within the palace of Alvorada, where he has been exercising his functions for a week by videoconference, according to medical recommendations, Jair Bolsonaro assured that he had no symptoms and that the treatment with hydroxychloroquine worked.

“I don't recommend anything, I recommend that you go to your doctor and talk to him. In my case, a military doctor recommended hydroxychloroquine and it worked, “he added, reaffirming his steadfast faith in this drug, the effectiveness of which has not been formally proven.

In a separate note, the Brazilian secretariat for communication said that the head of state would remain at Alvorada palace where he continued to receive assistance from the presidential medical team.

Fierce detractor so far from confinement and having minimized the seriousness of the pandemic which is shaking his country for the past four months, Jair Bolsonaro had expressed his impatience on Monday to regain his freedom of movement.

The president had told CNN Brasil that he was due to undergo a new PCR test on Tuesday. “I will be anxiously awaiting the result because I cannot stand this routine, staying at home is horrible,” he said on the phone.

Tuesday, “if all goes well, I'm going back to work. Of course, if not, I will wait a few more days, “said Bolsonaro.

The president explained to the same channel on Wednesday that he had not had symptoms of COVID – 19 since July 6.

Brazil is second behind the United States in the world in terms of number of contamination cases (almost two million) and deaths (some 75) 00 0) linked to COVID – 19.
