You've waited for the jailbreak for iOS 5, but later realized that your iPhone 4S/iPad 2 was not compatible. No need to worry. It's finally here. Now there is a way to jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 with a jailbreaking tool called Absinthe. This easy jailbreak is untethered and your device will be jailbroken in no time.
1. Download Absinthe here for Windows and here for Mac
2. Connect your device to the computer
3. Open Absinthe and click "Jailbreak"
Note: if a pop-up comes up that says "restore" then ignore it and allow the process to complete
4. When the jailbreak bar is full, go to your device
5. On your device, there should be a new icon. Tap on it. A white screen will appear now. If you have problems view the section below.
Possible Problems
  • If “Error establishing a database connection” message appears go to Settings-General-Network-VPN and turn VPN off. More explanation here
  • If the jailbreak servers are busy and it's not working, double-click the home button and remove the app from the multitasking tray.
6. If it does work, Cydia will display on your springboard. Congratulations, you've jailbroken your iPhone 4S/iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1.
