Jaguar’s Virtual Windscreen Projects a 3D Heads-Up Display

Instead of projecting a complete dashboard on to the windshield, The Virtual Windscreen projects on the most important information to the driver, such as hazard, speed, navigation as well as brake guidance with ghost cars and virtual cones. The Virtual Windscreen also features gesture control to allow easier communication with the driver.

“We have identified which functions still need to be controlled by physical buttons and which could be controlled by gesture and carefully calibrated motion sensors,” said Director of Research and Technology Dr. Wolfgang Epple. “The system is currently being tested on a number of features including sunblinds, rear wipers and satellite navigation maps. It has the potential to be on sale within the next few years.”

Jaguar promises to bring this new technology into real world vehicles very soon.
