iUNIK Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum Review

By Anshulika

You may or may not be planning to visit South Korea this year, but you might be wanting to include Korean products in your skincare routine. As for me, I'm still on that Korean skincare and beauty kick after using and products.

So carrying on with my Korean beauty obsession, here's review of a new skincare serum I'm currently using from an innovative Korean cosmetic skincare brand - iUNIK. I was approached by the brand a few months back asking if I would like to try any of their products.

There was no obligation for review but since I truly loved their products and already using this Propolis Vitamin Synergy serum diligently in my skincare routine, I genuinely wanted to share my feedback about this new brand and their products with you guys.

So here comes my detailed review for iNUIK Propolis Vitamin Synergy Serum

Describe the brand in three words

Affordable. Korean. Natural.

What is it?

A propolis and vitamin C serum that nourishes and soothes skin, while smoothening fine lines, brightening dull skin and restoring elasticity.

So basically, it's a light-weight antioxidant and amino acid serum for daily use.

What does it claims to do?

The product claims to calm, nourish and brighten even the most sensitive and dry skin, with its unique concentration of 70% propolis extract and 12% hippohae rhamnoides fruit extract (vitamin C). The product provides a four synergy solution for skin that is:

  1. Calming (propolis and centella asiatica extract)
  2. Nourishing (mineral, vitamin & amino acid blend)
  3. Hydrating (rosa damscena flower water & portulaca oleracea extract)
  4. Antiaging (niacinamide & adenosine)
What is propolis?

Propolis is a substance produced by honey bees by mixing saliva and bees wax with cells gathered from tree buds, sap flows and other botanical sources. Propolis has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years.

The substance is loaded with soothing, calming and healing benefits for the skin. It is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and a source of antioxidants, amino acids and minerals.

What is hippohae rhamnoides fruit extract?

It's an extract from the sea buckthorne fruit, which is a highly nutritious fruit containing an abundance of omega fatty acids, antioxidants, amino acids, minerals and vitamins (in particular one of the highest plant sources for vitamin C). Vitamin C is a proven ingredient for brightening and evening skin tone, reducing pigmentation, stimulating collagen production, neutralising free radicals and keeping skin looking more youthful.

Who is it for?

I personally feel the serum is best suited for sensitive and dry skin beauties but since it's a light-weight antioxidant serum, anyone and everyone can use this to enhance their skincare routine.

What's in it?

Propolis Extract, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Methylpropanediol, Niacinamide, Dipropylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine, Glycosyl Trehalose, Honey Extract, Beta-Glucan, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Allantoin, Carbomer, Arginine, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Adenosine, Dipotassium, Glycyrrhizate, Pentylene Glycol, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Centella Asistica Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Punica Granatium Fruit Extract, Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract, Morus Alba Fruit Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Nut Extract, Caprylyl Glycol.

What's not in it?

Harmful chemicals, parabens, mineral oil, and other nasties.

Possibly acne/allergy/trouble causing some ingredients?

Not really.

Suitable for pregnancy/lactation?

Yes.

How does it smell?

Almost odorless but on sniffing the product from very close, the serum has a faint citrus scent that smells like kids vitamin C tablets.

Suitable for summer or winter?

All seasons, although I only started using it, when the weather got colder. And I suspect you'd only want to use something like this in hot weather, if you have really dry or sensitive skin.

How long did I test it for?

Almost two months now.

How's the texture and packaging?

The serum comes housed in a glass dropper bottle with a simple white label displaying product information both in English & Korean wrapped all across the bottle.

It's pale orange in color and has a runny consistency that spreads and absorbs quickly on applying. Not heavy, sticky or oily, the serum layers beautifully with other products.

How do you use it?

I apply two drops of this propolis serum all over my face and neck after washing and then follow it with a moisturizer/SPF at day time and night cream at night.

What's good about it?

Everything! Right from its ingredients to its texture and packaging - I just love everything about this serum. It's the first time I'm using propolis and it has surprised me by keeping my skin so comfortable and supple even during this freezing North India winters.

It has calmed down all irritations and skin troubles I was suffering from before using this serum. Since, I did not change any other thing in my skincare routine, I can say that it's propolis vitamin synergy serum that has actually helped me with the minor acne issue I was facing a few months back.

Not only my acne and little red spots have all cleared up but my skin feels a lot more relaxed, smooth, and moisturized. Now it's peak of winters and thanks to its excellent hydration my skin doesn't feel as tight as it used to about the 6-8 hour mark, even after using matte foundations and SPF.

As for the anti-aging and whitening claims, well it has certainly not made my face look any younger or whiter than before. All it has done for me is calmed, soothed, nourished and moisturized my skin. It has become a staple in my skincare routine and I find myself reaching for this on an almost daily basis, only switching it out to play with other serums and potions in my skincare stash!

What's not so good about it?

Availability! Not so easily and readily available on online and offline stores other than the brand's own website.

R2B Rating: 4/5

Final words:

Well, Korean beauty and skincare products have truly been a game changer for me upgrading and fine-tuning my previous skincare routine. I absolutely adored this propolis vitamin synergy serum by iUNIK. If you have dry, inflammed or sensitive skin and looking for a good moisturizer, I highly recommend this propolis vitamin synergy serum to calm and nourish your skin.
