Itoldyouiwouldeatyou – ‘Divine Violence’ Stream

Posted on the 03 July 2017 by Spectralnights

We’re living in a very divisive society right now and it’s horrible. We went to Glastonbury the other weekend and the difference between there and ‘real life’ was incredible. It was so refreshing to be surrounded by people who were actually open-minded and respected each other. itoldyouiwouldeatyou have always been keen advocates of acceptance and on ‘Divine Violence’ they tackle important issues including politics, sexuality and identity with wit and candour.

From the melodic opening (with trademark ‘twinkle’ guitars) that finds Joey Ashworth musing about the things certain sections of society can get away with to his rant about the cowardly nature of bigots, there’s a seething – and understandable – anger that rises throughout the song. This comes to the fore as the song reaches its final throes and Joey screams with the best of them. You can feel the passion and frustration with these bullies as the song combines elements of screamo, mewithoutYou and the driving punk of Sl0tface.
