Sorry to bang on about poor, old America - yet again! - but I do like the place even if it strains my patience at times. Down below I bemoaned what I saw as a drift towards Big Government Totalitarianism and a small example of it has arisen in Nevada. There, a local cattle farming family has grazed its herd on Federal land for over a century. Recently they came under pressure from the somewhat sinister-sounding Bureau for Land Management (BLM) who insisted that they remove their cattle. They resisted by various Federal courts upheld the Federal law - so no surprise there, then! Finaly, the Feds moved in and confiscated the herd at which point the 'best of America' erupted in the form of local people outraged at Federal bullying. Needless to say, within hours heavily-armed Federal agents appeared with all their semi-military paraphenalia and the possibility of serious bloodshed was imminent.
But then, over the hill came the US cavalry the internet news sites, in particular, infowars.com who actually did what is quite beyond the abilities - or interest - of the American MSM, they actually investigated that back story. And lo, who stood exposed in the bright Nevada sunlight? None other than the creepy little shit who is Nevada's Senator and the current leader of the US Senate, Harry Reid. And guess who is the boss of the militant BLM, why, none other than good ol' Harry's former political chief of staff! Even so, why the sudden militancy, why the urgency, why the impulse for using the heavy fist on a family who were doing nothing more than what they had done for 140 years, that is, grazing their cattle on Federal land?
Don't bother looking to the NYT or the WaPo or CNN for answers, they couldn't care less. But Infowars provided the answer - and it is putrid beyond description:
The Bureau of Land Management, whose director was Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) former senior adviser, has purged documents from its web site stating that the agency wants Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s cattle off of the land his family has worked for over 140 years in order to make way for solar panel power stations.
It's always interesting when a government agency suddenly takes down postings on its website. So what had suddenly embarrassed them this time?
Back in 2012, the New American reported that Harry Reid’s son, Rory Reid, was the chief representative for a Chinese energy firm planning to build a $5-billion solar plant on public land in Laughlin, Nevada.
And journalist Marcus Stern with Reuters also reported that Sen. Reid was heavily involved in the deal as well.
“[Reid] and his oldest son, Rory, are both involved in an effort by a Chinese energy giant, ENN Energy Group, to build a $5 billion solar farm and panel manufacturing plant in the southern Nevada desert,” he wrote. “Reid has been one of the project’s most prominent advocates, helping recruit the company during a 2011 trip to China and applying his political muscle on behalf of the project in Nevada.”
“His son, a lawyer with a prominent Las Vegas firm that is representing ENN, helped it locate a 9,000-acre (3,600-hectare) desert site that it is buying well below appraised value from Clark County, where Rory Reid formerly chaired the county commission.”
Although these reports are in plain view, the mainstream media has so far ignored this link. [My emphasis]
So, America's senior Senator, 'good ol' boy' Harry Reid (Democrat - don't laugh!), is tucked up in bed with the Chinese in order to make himself a few zillion dollars and if some hick cattle farmer family gets hurt, well, hey, that's progress, ain't it?!
Over here, of course, we have natterjack toads as a constant excuse for Greenies to get even soppier and more stupid but, so far, the government does no deploy snipers and helicopter gunships to protect them for spurious reasons. But they do things differently 'over there':
The BLM’s official reason for encircling the Bundy family with sniper teams and helicopters was to protect the endangered desert tortoise, which the agency has previously been killing in mass due to “budget constraints.”
“A tortoise isn’t the reason why BLM is harassing a 67 year-old rancher; they want his land,” journalist Dana Loesch wrote. “The tortoise wasn’t of concern when [U.S. Senator] Harry Reid worked with BLM to literally change the boundaries of the tortoise’s habitat to accommodate the development of his top donor, Harvey Whittemore.”
“Reid is accused of using the new BLM chief as a puppet to control Nevada land (already over 84% of which is owned by the federal government) and pay back special interests,” she added. “BLM has proven that they’ve a situational concern for the desert tortoise as they’ve had no problem waiving their rules concerning wind or solar power development. Clearly these developments have vastly affected a tortoise habitat more than a century-old, quasi-homesteading grazing area.”
So far, score one for 'the little people' - but don't hold your breath! When Big Money and Big Government, in this case, two Big Governments, join hands you had better watch out.
