It’s What’s Inside (Netflix)- A Sundance/SXSW Hit With Excellent Audio Description

For my own sanity, I have to start including or streamlining the process. Truth is, I could use more subscribers, likes, and views on YouTube, a platform I might one day reach some level of monetization on. So, above is my video review of Its What’s Inside, if you’d like to hear my thoughts.

My general thoughts are that the film has an interesting premise, a body swap film that makes a bold choice that forces a tough decision. It feels very light, despite the catalysts in all of this, mainly because all of the characters seem to be written almost so close in personality type so that you don’t need strong actors to try and take on wildly different personalities. We’ve certainly seen our fair share of body swap movies, with most of them leaning comedy. And, they almost always hinge on the ability to mimic another individual. But, in casting mostly unknown actors (though I love Brittany O’Grady), the expectation is lower. It puts more of a focus on that third act twist, which pushes a greater ethical dilemma in an otherwise inconsequential film.

The audio description here is also really strong, especially when you consider what it is being asked to do. Not only do we get a solid character description of these rather surface level characters, but then they start body swapping. And when they do, we don’t always know who is in which body. There are also times where the director puts somewhat of a red hue, like an X-Ray over the film, and has scenes show us who is in the body, instead of watching the bodies themselves.

Really, a truly intricate movie that demands your attention, especially as a blind viewer, because of the attention to detail. It might not have struck quite the chord as last year’s Talk To me, but I did really enjoy this movie. Let me know your thoughts in the comments of either this review, or the video.
