Pilots N Paws, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, matches private pilots who volunteer their time, aircraft, and money with unwanted pets with unwanted pets to help them make it wherever they need to go to reach their "forever" home. These awesome aviators only payment is with wet kisses and nose prints on the windows.
It all began in 2007 when Knoxville pilot Jon Wehrenberg offered to fly down to Florida to pick up a Doberman that South Carolina animal rescuer Debi Boises was planning to adopt. It wasn't long before they realized that they were on to something here.
Pilots N Paws now flies pet rescue missions all over the country. Rescue groups post a needed trip on the website and available pilots respond. Right now there are more requests than pilots to fill them since FAA rules won't allow pilots to take money for their services.
Getting these pets to loving homes is all that matters to these flyers -- that and a really great reason to take to the air.
