Dengue fever is not fatal for most people who contract it, but it can be extremely painful. Symptoms can include fever, muscle and joint pain, and a measles-like skin rash.
More than 30,000 people in India have been infected this year, a 60 percent jump from 2011. Government officials in New Delhi have refused to acknowledge the issue. India is considered the launching pad for the mosquito-borne plague, which is spreading around the world. The World Health Organization warns that the spread of dengue is far worse than most people know.
