Is Hell Only for Satan and Demons? – Response to a Question

By None

The question was posed, “Is Hell only for Satan and demons?” The correct answer is, “No.” Hell is also for those human beings who, out of their own free-will choice, select to continue rejecting God and His mercy right up to the moment of their death. Any individual who dies in a state of mortal (deadly) sin – even only one such sin - will end up in Hell. This is immutable and is the incontrovertible teaching of the universal Church, despite so many individuals these days, including some members of the clergy and religious, attempting to rationalize away the reality of the consequences of both mortal sin and Hell for human beings.

Mortal sins are deliberate violations of the ten  commandments and entail thoughts, behaviors and actions which are gravely contrary to the love we owe both God and neighbor. Meanwhile, the seven deadly sins are pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth, in order of priority. Additional mortal sins include bioethical violations (e.g., artificial birth control), morally dubious experiments (e.g., human embryo experimentation), drug abuse, polluting the environment, contributing to widening the divide between the rich and the poor, excessive wealth and creating poverty (Gori, 2008). More on Hell, Satan and demons can be found at Hell is real: Satan lives.
