IRCTC E-Ticket Cancellation and Refund Rules 2020

IRCTC ( Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation ) provides the facility to book as well as cancel tickets through its website. E-tickets booked online through IRCTC Website can be cancelled till the reservation chart of the booked train is prepared. For the train having departure time before 12 noon, the chart is usually prepared the previous night. Here are the New rules for E-ticket cancellation and refund of IRCTC

Cancellation of the ticket before the preparation of Reservation Chart

Cancellation of a confirmed ticket more than 48 hours before the train departure, a flat cancellation charge will be deducted

  • AC First Class/Executive Class: INR 240.
  • AC 2 Tier/First Class: INR 200.
  • AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy: INR 180.
  • Sleeper Class: INR 120.
  • Second Class: INR 60.

Cancellation of a confirmed ticket within 48 hrs and up to 12 hours before the train departure

    Cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare paid subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned in the above clause.

Cancellation of a confirmed ticket less than 12 hours and up to four hours before the train departure.

    Cancellation charges shall be 50% of the fare paid subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned in the above clause.

Cancellation of Waiting List

A flat INR 65 IS deducted if the waiting list is auto cancelled, did not get confirm or the customer cancels it from IRCTC portal.

Cancellation of the ticket after the preparation of Reservation chart

  • E-tickets can not be cancelled after the charts have been prepared. However, users can file Online TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt).
  • Online TDR can be filed as per rules set by Indian Railways.
    • In the case of confirmed tickets, the refund shall not be applicable if the ticket is not cancelled or TDR is not filed online four hours before the departure time of the train.
    • In case of RAC and WL, the refund shall not be applicable if the ticket is not cancelled or TDR is not filed thirty minutes before the departure time of the train.
    • In case, on a party e-ticket or a family e-ticket issued for travel of more than one passenger where some passengers have confirmed reservation and others are on RAC or waiting list then a refund of fare less the clerkage will be applicable for confirmed passengers. It is also subject to the condition that the ticket shall be cancelled online or online TDR shall be filed for all the passengers up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
    • If the E-ticket is booked through an agent, then the agent needs to send a mail at [email protected] with the following details.
  • In such cases, where the ticket is booked by agents, IRCTC will file the online TDR and forward the claim to the concerned department. The refund amount will be credited to the agent's account by which the payment was made.
  • TDR status can be tracked online by tracking service provided by IRCTC.

Note: In case of partial cancellation of a ticket, please make sure that a fresh e-ticket, excluding the cancelled passengers, is generated.

Cancellation of Tatkal tickets booked as E-tickets

  • No refund of confirmed tatkal e-tickets will be granted if cancelled.
  • In case of the Waiting list, and Partially confirmed tatkal tickets, the refund will be processed after deducting charges applicable at that time.

Cancellation of E-tickets in case the train is cancelled

  • In case a train is marked 'cancelled' in PRS ( Passenger Reservation System ) due to any natural calamities, accident etc, a full refund is processed if the customer cancels the ticket within 3 days of the scheduled departure.
  • In the case of E-ticket, the cancellations can be done by the customer.

How to find if a train is Cancelled in PRS (Passenger Reservation System)?

Visit the official website of the National Train Enquiry System. Click on Train Cancelled then Search the train with Train No and Date of Journey.

How to file Online TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt)?

  • Login to IRCTC Account.
  • Click on the Booked Ticket History.
  • Select the PNR for which you want to file the TDR and click "File TDR" Button.
  • Select the passenger name from for claiming TDR refund.
  • Select the reason for filing TDR form list box and if your reason is not mentioned in the list box then select others from the list and type the reason.
  • Click the Submit Button.
  • A confirmation message will be shown after the completion of TDR filing.
  • If details are confirmed click "OK" in the alert window.
  • TDR Entry Confirmation page will show the PNR Number, Transaction ID, Reference number, TDR Status, Reason.
