Natania is no stranger to
Catch My Ear. We have featured her music as the
Download of the Week,
Artist of the Month, and did a review on her last EP. That’s why when I got an email from her to talk about her new song “
Box You Up” I jumped on it. I’ve always loved the stuff that this
singer/song-writer has been doing and I want to make sure I can help spread the word about her music. So have fun reading this interview it was great catching up with her and we are really going to be hearing big things from her very soon.
It’s been over a year since your last interview with Catch My Ear. First off I would like to say thank you for remembering us! It was a pleasure interviewing you the last time and spreading the word about the music you released. What is new with you?
Hello! Thank you guys for having me back!!! Well! I just released my new single “Box You Up“. I’m in India at the moment promoting it! I am so excited about this new music. I also put out a lyric video with it that’s airing on VH1 and MTV in India!! This week I’m getting ready to travel to Bangalore in India for the finals of the MTV Asia Project Aloft Star competition!
You have a new single that was just released a few weeks ago, called “Box You Up”. I have to say I love everything about this song from the music to the lyrics. What was the inspiration for the song?
Aw!! Thank you!!! I was very frustrated with myself at the time because I liked someone that I just knew wasn’t meant for me and we would never work out! I was moving apartments at the time and I had all these cardboard boxes around me. I just wanted to stuff my feelings in one of the boxes and ship them off and never see them again!!
What’s the message you want the listener to get when they listen “
Box You Up”?
I want the listener to box up anything negative in their lives! I want the song to inspire them and get rid of any baggage! Whether it’s an ex boyfriend or feelings or fear – I hope my song helps them let go of any weight pressing down on them!
With releasing the new single will you be releasing a new EP or full-length album soon? If so, do you have a title in mind for the EP or album?
Yes!! It’s a 5 song EP called “Gold” it comes out early next year!! There’s another single that comes out before that!! I’m so excited about this record. I did it with this producer in LA, Max Mitchell and we had so much fun in the studio! I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
Will you be going out on tour any time soon? If so, when and were can people see you and who will you be touring with?
I’m actually in India right now! So I will be doing some touring here!! I hope to do some shows when I go back to the states as well!
Have you worked with any new artists? If you have who was the artist and how was the experience?
I did a lot of writing with independent artist ‘Grayce’ this year! She is one of the best vocalists I have ever heard! I love writing with her because we write stuff I would never write on my own and I get to add all these amazing notes since she has such a huge range!! We have so much fun together and come up with some great songs!
What has helped you get inspired to write new music?
Everything! First of all, whenever I listen to new music that I like I’m always inspired to write!! Also life happens and I end up writing. I’m always writing down ideas and phrases! I also love journaling.. It helps put all my thoughts together sometimes. You can also find me at cute cafes with string lights drinking coffee and people watching for inspiration! (In a non creepy way haha!)
What has been your favorite song you have wrote and why?
Hmmm, that’s hard! I think it’s hard to pick a favorite because each song has been personal but off the top of my head right now I would say it’s a song off the new EP called “every time you walk into the room” because it’s so honest and in the moment. You’ll have to wait to hear it to find out more!
With 2014 coming to an end very quickly what do you see happening in 2015 for you?
This year has been going by so quickly! I’m excited for 2015! I’ll be releasing the EP, playing shows, recording some new music and writing for artists and hopefully lots of exciting things! I also want to be traveling to India throughout the year and back to the US and be doing music in both countries!
What is your favorite part about being in the music industry?
Being able to share my music with people! It’s such an incredible feeling when someone writes to you telling you about how your song helped them get through something. I recently got this message from a 13 year old girl telling me how she performed “Cherry Love” at school and how I inspired her! A message like that makes me so grateful that I am able to do music for a living. I want my music to do to others what my favorite music has done for me.
