Despite their young age, Toowoomba's Tinted Sun have developed their own identity, through writing original songs that offers a fresh take on familiar sounds. The five piece have just put out their latest single 'Only one'. Tomatrax caught up with Lara-sian Hallaran to ask a few questions.

How did the band form?
We all met at a music studio where the owner put us together when we were about 11 years old.

Where did the name Tinted Sun come from?
I came up with it thinking about alternative music ( tinted ) and based in Australia ( sun ).

What made you pick 'Only One' as your latest single?
We believed that only ones message about trauma and dealing with this was important and this song highlights the struggle.

The song covers some deep themes, where do you get the inspiration for the lyrics?
From listening to the music of Bob Dylan, and poetry of Alan Ginsberg, and music of The Smashing Pumpkins and The Cure.

Are there any plans for an album?
Yes, we are busy continuing our writing and composition.

When writing what comes first, the words or the music?
The words.

What is the music scene like in Toowoomba?
There are some good venues with live music, mainly rock and indie based.

Do you ever listen to your own music?
I listen to all sorts of music, but when developing a song we listen to it and try to critically assess it.

What other music do you listen to?
Smashing Pumpkins, Tom Waits, Howling Wolf, The Cure, David Bowie, Paramore

Now that the single is out what do you plan on doing next?
Continue to develop new music and broaden our performance experience with festivals.
